Overview

Movable Bin allows inventory to be received directly into a Movable Bin during the Goods Receiving Note (GRN) process. Instead of receiving inventory first and moving it to a bin later, inventory is scanned directly into a Movable Bin during GRN.

During GRN, the system links the received inventory to the scanned Movable Bin and marks the bin as Under Movement. The inventory remains unavailable for further warehouse operations until Movable Bin Putaway is completed.

This feature supports serialized inventory (USN Types 1–5). For USN Types 1, 2, 3, and 5, users scan serial numbers during GRN. For USN Type 4, users enter the quantity, and the system automatically generates the required serial numbers.

Movable Bin mapping can be performed from both Android and Web GRN. However, Movable Bin Putaway is supported only through the Android application.


When to Use this

This is used where teams already handle inward using bins instead of totes.

People pick empty bins, and scan items directly into them. Separate bins are usually used for good and bad items.

Putaway happens later using the same bins after GRN is completed.

Prerequisites

  • Movable Bin feature must be enabled (enableBinMovement setting).
  • Serialized inventory (USN Types 1–5).
  • For QC Fail processing, enableGrnQcFailSerial and QcFailPutAway settings must be enabled, if applicable.

    Mandatory Settings

    1. enableBinMovement
    Enables Movable Bin flow (bin scan during GRN + Movable Bin Putaway)

    Optional / Based on Use

    1. SerialGRNContinuousScan
    Controls how serials are scanned
    ON → multiple serials can be scanned continuously
    OFF → serials are scanned one by one

    2. QcFailPutAway
    Enables Good / Bad selection during GRN

    3. enableGrnQcFailSerial
    Makes QC Fail Reason mandatory when item is marked as Bad

    4. badBinStatusLevel
    Controls which bins can be used for bad items

    5. SortedDataAtGRN (Android only)
    If enabled, users select QC Pass or QC Fail before starting inward. The selected QC status is applied throughout the GRN process.

    Limitations
    1. Movable Bin is not supported in Direct GRN.
    2. Android Auto GRN supports only USN Type 5.

    Web GRN Flow

    Note:
    1. Web supports only Movable Bin mapping during GRN.
    2. Movable Bin Putaway must be performed from Android.

    Step 1. During the GRN, Scan SKU / UOM (or gate entry ID > Product Code, if applicable)


    2. Select QC Pass or QC Fail & Scan the Movable Bin

    If QC Fail is selected, Select a QC Fail Reason.
    For QC Fail, scan a Movable Bin that belongs to the configured Bad Zone.

    Step 3. Receive inventory

    1. For USN Types 1, 2, 3 and 5 - Scan serial numbers.

    1. For USN Type 4 - Enter the required quantity. The system automatically generates serial numbers.


    5. Click Proceed.
    6. Enter the remaining GRN details & Save the GRN.

    Web GRN Behavior

    1. Multiple Movable Bins can be used within the same GRN.
    2. Previously scanned Movable Bins can be selected again to continue receiving inventory into the same Movable Bin.
    3. QC Pass and QC Fail inventory are maintained separately.
    4. For QC Fail, Movable Bin mapping is maintained separately for each QC Fail Reason.

    Android GRN flow

    Step 1: Start GRN

    1. Open Android application → Start inwarding items (GRN)


    Depending on account type:

    3PL accounts:

    Select PO → Open PO → Go to GRN → Select GRN


    Go to GRN


    Select GRN


    Start adding items to the GRN

    Seller accounts:

    Use Auto GRN to start inwarding:



    Step 2: Scan SKU

    • Scan SKU / EAN

    Step 3: Select Condition (if enabled)

    Select:
    1. Good Items
    2. Bad Items
    If Bad Items selected:
    • Select QC fail reason

    Step 4: Scan an Empty Movable Bin

    Info
    The Movable Bin must not contain available or reserved inventory.
    Otherwise, the system displays a Bin Not Free error and the Movable Bin cannot be selected.


    Step 5: Receive Inventory

    1. For USN Types 1,2,3 and 5 - Scan serial numbers.
    2. For USN Type 4 - Enter the required quantity. The system automatically generates the required serial numbers.

    If SerialGRNContinuousScan is enabled, multiple serials can be scanned continuously. Otherwise, scan one serial at a time.



    Step 6: Complete GRN

    Enter required details, if applicable
    • Batch, MRP, MFG, EXP, etc.

    System Behavior (After GRN)

  • Bin is marked as Under Movement
  • Inventory is linked to the scanned bin
  • Inventory is not available for further operations
  • Bin
    - cannot be used in standard GRN while it is under movement
    - can be used within Movable Bin flow

    Pending Bin Putaway Report - Shows bins where GRN is completed but putaway is pending

    Bins Under Movement Report -     Shows bins currently in use (GRN done, putaway not completed)

    Workflow: Movable Bin Putaway

    Step 1: Go to Putaway

    • Select 'Movable Bin Putaway' from the list

    Step 2: Scan Bin

    Scan the Movable Bin that was used during GRN.

    Step 3: Complete Movable Bin Putaway

    Review the scanned Movable Bin and Slide right to complete the Movable Bin Putaway.

    Inventory becomes Available. The Movable Bin status changes from Under Movement to Available and can be reused, subject to normal bin validations.

    FAQs

    1. Why is bin not getting selected during GRN?
    The selected Movable Bin is not empty. A Movable Bin cannot contain available or reserved inventory.
    2. When does inventory become available?
    After completing Movable Bin Putaway
    3. Can GRN be completed without putaway?
    Yes. Inventory will not be available until putaway is completed
    4. Can the same bin be reused immediately?
    No. Only after putaway and when bin meets validation conditions
    5. What happens if putaway is not completed?
    Bin remains under movement. Inventory remains unavailable.
    6. Can Movable Bin Putaway be performed from Web?
    No. Currently, Movable Bin Putaway is supported only from Android.
    7. Does the Web GRN flow support all USN Types?
    Yes.
    USN Types 1,2,3 and 5 require serial scanning.
    USN Type 4 requires quantity entry.
    The remaining workflow is the same for all supported USN Types.
    8. Can Direct GRN use Movable Bin?
    No.
    9. Can the same Movable Bin be selected again during GRN?
    Yes. Previously scanned Movable Bins can be selected again to continue receiving inventory into the same Movable Bin.
